RePlastic Recycle
When recycling with us, DO
- Check plastic type for 2 or 5
- Rinse plastic
- Remove labels
1. Check your plastic type for 2 or 5
Accepted Plastic Types: Currently, we accept plastic types 2 and 5. Type 2 refers to HDPE plastic, which stands for High Density Polyethylene. Type 5 is known as PP, which stands for Polypropylene. Many product manufacturers now clearly indicate the type of plastic they use, usually by imprinting it on the bottom or underneath the item. Please note that these imprints may sometimes be small and hard to locate. If you're uncertain or unable to find the plastic number on your item, we recommend not including it for recycling. You can always reach out to us through social media or email, and we'll be happy to assist you.
*Not Accepted: We do not currently recycle Type 1 (PETE) plastic.*
This includes clear, shiny plastics commonly found in *water bottles,* soda and juice bottles, clear food containers (such as boxed leafy greens, and small tomatoes), and most single use plastic cups. Additionally, we are unable to recycle any type of wrap or shrink film, even if it falls under plastic types 2 or 5.
Type 2 Plastic: HDPE High Density Polyethylene: commonly found in gallon water and milk jugs, shampoo and conditioner bottles, laundry detergent bottles, kayaks, outdoor furniture, and cleaning supplies such as bleach, buckets, cleaning wipes and spray bottles.
Type 5 Plastic: PP Polypropylene: commonly found in food containers such as yogurt and sour cream, medicine bottles, bottle caps, take-out food containers, disposable cups, and plates, medical supplies, tool and screw boxes, plant pots and Tupperware containers.
2. Rinse and clean your plastic
This means a quick rinse so there is no leftover food or residue left behind.
3. Remove labels
Labels used with plastics come in various forms including paper, plastic wrap or printed on. It's important to note that not all labels can be recycled. Some detergent bottles and food containers have printing directly on the plastic surface and can’t be removed. Other labels are paper, plastic or plastic wrap which should be removed before recycling.
